Neumann U87 Tips and Review

The Neumann U87 is one of the best known "high end" mics in the pro audio world.  You get three polar patterns: Omni-directional, cardioid and figure eight.  Although this mic is typically considered a vocal mic, I really like the way it sounds as overheads on a drum kit.  Two of these overhead (set to cardioid), a kick mic, and a snare mic and you'd be surprised how fat your drums sound.  As a vocal mic, I like it alot as well, although I prefer it on tenors and sopranos.  However, every vocal has that special mic and preamp combination so experimentation is a must.
